ESG & road-safety impact
Safer roads, less fuel burnt, data handled properly.
Ajira exists because of a number: 4,458 people were killed on Kenyan roads in 2025. This is what we do about it, what it does to fuel and emissions, and how we treat the data that makes it possible.
Why this matters
Road crashes cost Kenya an estimated KES 450–800 billion a year, around 3 to 5 per cent of GDP, and 4,458 people were killed on Kenyan roads in 2025, including 403 drivers and 723 passengers. Almost all of it is behaviour that a camera sees and a coach can change.

Three things we are accountable for
Lives on the road
Dual-lens AI coaching warns the driver in the cab at the moment of risk — phone use, fatigue, distraction, tailgating — rather than reporting it to an office a week later. Vivo Energy Kenya reported 35% fewer accidents after fitting.
Fuel and emissions
Idling, over-speeding and harsh driving are the same problem seen two ways: a fuel bill and a tailpipe. Dakawou Transport reported a 28% cut in fuel cost. Every litre not burnt is roughly 2.68 kg of CO₂ not emitted.
Data handled properly
Driver monitoring only earns its place if drivers are treated fairly. Event-only upload, role-based access, defined retention, and a written agreement that keeps the fleet operator — not Ajira — in control of the data.
What we measure, and how
We do not publish an impact figure we cannot trace to a vehicle. Every engagement starts with a baseline measured on the client's own fleet, and the same measures are reviewed with them every month.
| Measure | What it tells you | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Collisions per million kilometres | Whether the fleet is actually getting safer, independent of how much it drove | Incident records and platform distance data |
| Harsh events per 100 km | Whether driving behaviour is changing between incidents | On-device AI and accelerometer data |
| Idle share of engine time | Fuel and emissions burnt while stationary | Engine-hours and ignition data |
| Litres per 100 km | Fuel efficiency trend against the baseline month | Fuel records and, where fitted, the fuel probe |
| Over-speed events and driving-hour breaches | Exposure to NTSA enforcement and to insurer conditions | Speed profiles and trip logs |
| Claims closed, and how quickly | Whether video is actually shortening disputes | Client claims data reviewed with the account manager |
Client results quoted on this site are reported by those clients and measured against their own pre-installation baseline. They are not a guarantee of what any other fleet will achieve.
Environment beyond the tailpipe
Fewer wasted kilometres
Journey planning, route-deviation alerts and drop verification cut the duplicated trips, detours and re-deliveries that put avoidable kilometres on the road.
Longer device life
Faulty units are diagnosed, repaired and re-fitted by our own technicians in Kenya rather than shipped overseas or written off, which keeps hardware in service for longer.
Less paper
Trip sheets, inspection records, certificate tracking and compliance reporting move from folders to the platform, and are produced on demand instead of printed monthly.
People and the local economy

KES
priced, invoiced and supported in shillings
Installation, training, monitoring and support are done by Kenyan technicians and Command Centre staff. That is partly a service decision — a fleet off the road cannot wait for an overseas ticket queue — and partly the point: the skills and the money stay here.
Reporting it to your board
If safety and emissions performance is something you report — to a parent company, an insurer, a lender or a tender committee — tell your account manager what the reporting template asks for and we will shape the monthly review around it, so the numbers come out in the format you have to file.

Ten vehicles. Thirty days. Your numbers.
We fit ten of your vehicles at your depot, you keep operating, and at week six you get a written baseline-versus-pilot report and a fixed fleet-wide price.
